Single-pair Ethernet (SPE) and Ethernet-APL switches are built for field applications like process automation, using 10BASE-T1L to carry both power and data over a single twisted-pair cable (with PoDL support on the SPE models). They cut down on cabling and simplify network architecture by extending Ethernet all the way to the field, connecting field instruments directly to the control center for a truly unified IT/OT network.
